Dairy Cattle Show 2023

Rules and Regulations 

a. At our insurance company’s insistence, livestock exhibitors must provide proof of $1,000,000 liability insurance or entries will be refused.  

b. Each Exhibitor must have purchased a 2023 Membership prior to the fair in order to exhibit.  Please refer to Membership/Admission section of the prize list for membership fee information, which must accompany the entry form. 

c. Entries must be received by Friday July 21st, 2023 either by:  

  • email to the Secretary, Navan Fair, 1279 Colonial Road, Navan, ON, K4B 1N1 (navanfair@bellnet.ca) OR 
  • online entry form with capability to pay via PayPal.  

(Entire entries received show day will be charged $10. additional administration fee to exhibitor) 

d. A 20% entry fee will be deducted from prize money. Exhibitors’ passes available at the Fair office. 

e. Judging will begin at 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 10th. Jersey show will commence at 6:00 pm. 

f. All animals must arrive by 10:00 am, Thursday, August 10th. No animals will be allowed on the grounds before Tuesday, August 8th. This will be strictly enforced. All animals are to be removed from the grounds by midnight, August 11th, unless arrangements are made.  

g. Only one tie ring per animal will be allowed. This rule will be strictly enforced. 

h. Straw may be available for a fee.  Please call Andrew at (613) 878-1430 to make arrangements ahead of time. 

i. Each Exhibitor is responsible for manure and milk removal to a designated area. We ask that no milk be dumped in manure piles.

j. Under no circumstances should an animal exhibiting signs of transmittal diseases be taken onto the Navan Fair grounds. The show committee and other Navan Fair officials have the right to refuse entry of any animal showing signs of an infectious disease (e.g. Warts, ringworm, BVD etc.).  If a Veterinary check is required, it will be at the expense of the exhibitor and the veterinary’s decision is final.  Also, the CTAS recommends that all animals have proof of Rabies Immunization a minimum of 30 days prior to the show in order to comply with O. Reg. 497/17, which is in affect as of July 1st, 2019. 

k. All animals exhibited must be registered on the records of their applicable breed Association, in the name of the exhibitor. No animal will be accepted without a registration certificate. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS. 

l. Each animal will be checked against its pedigree prior to entry into the ring. 

m. Each Exhibitor may show a maximum of 10 animals. Plus 2 additional Jr. animals, providing they are 4H calves and shown by the 4H member. 

n. A maximum of two (2) substitute animals will be permitted. A fee of $5.00 per substitute will be charged. 

o. The Judge may be asked to give reasons on the top 3 or 4 animals. 

p. Your attention is drawn to the fact that there must be at least 3 Exhibitors and 24 exhibits in each breed of dairy classification; if this is not achieved the Fair reserves the right to cancel the Show.  

q. Barn space will be assigned.  In the event of full barns.  Exhibitors who fail to have their entries in on time may be asked to tie outside or leave the show.  This will help ensure exhibitors who have their entries in on time will have barn space. 

r. Please park in your division’s designated area. We ask everyone to respect eceryone’s personal property. Theft, tampering and moving someone’s personal property will not be allowed.

ALL ANIMALS MUST HAVE RFID TAGS IN EARS, PRIOR TO ARRIVAL. 

Premier Breeder & Premier Exhibitor points will be calculated as follows: 

Jr. Classes Points:  1=10 2=9 3=8 4=7 5=6 6=6 7=5 8=4 9=2 10=1 

Sr. Classes Points:  1=20 2=18 3=16 4=14 5=12 6=10 7=8 8=6 9=4 10=2 

Points will be calculated on the top 7 placings. 

Prize Money 

1st – $100.    2nd – $90.    3rd – $80.    4th – $70.    5th – $60.    6th – $50.    7th – $40.    8th – $30.  9th – $20.    10th – $10. 

Special Class “Pee Wee” 

Calves exhibited by boys and girls up to 10 years of age as of the date of the show. Calves must be born after March 1, 2023.  No one exhibiting in this class may show a calf exhibited by a 4-H CLUB member. No B.C.A. required. No entry fee required. To be shown before classes begin. This class is open to all breeds. To register call Bert Molenaar at 613-229-3858 before August 1st, 2023.

  1. The Jersey Championship Show welcomes all 4-H members, by providing a new Showmanship class. Open to ages 10-21 (as of January 1, 2023). Participants will receive a special prize.
  2. Junior Breeder’s Herd (Bred and owned by Exhibitor) Group of 3 animals. Each animal in the group must have been exhibited in one of the classes for single animals. These animals must have been bred by the same Breeder and the Breeder must own at least one of the group.
