Fruits and Vegetables 2023

Note:  Entries are to be placed on display Wednesday, August 9th, 2023 between 6:00 PM
and 8:00 PM and are not to be removed until Sunday, August 13th, 2023 at 4:30 pm.

Rules and Regulations:

  1. One entry per exhibitor in any section
  2. Exhibitor must be a Member of the Cumberland Township Agricultural Society unless listed as a Junior entry (16 years and under). You must give your membership number when entering.
  3. All entries must be produced or grown by Exhibitor.
  4. Entries must be phoned in to 613-698-9206 or emailed to NavanFruitsandVeggies@gmail.com on or before Sunday, August 6th.
  5. Plates will be available for Vegetables.
  6. Judging will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday, August 10th.
  7. All vegetables should be lightly washed, unless otherwise indicated.
  8. Sweet corn, 1/3 husk removed from tip to butt.
  9. Onions not to be peeled, but roots may be left on.
  10. Blossoms should be left on beans.

Vegetables – open to all ages

  1. Beans, yellow (5)
  2. Beans, green (5)
  3. Beets, table (3), tops removed to approx. 1”
  4. Carrots, regular table (4), tops removed to approx. 1”
  5. Corn, sweet – husks should be on (2) – 1/3 husk removed.
  6. Cucumbers, slicing (2) 6” or longer – 1/2” stem still attached
  7. Cucumbers, pickling (4) 2” to 6” – 1/2” stem still attached (NOTE: Gherkin cucumbers
    deleted so numbering changes here)
  8. Onions, white (2)
  9. Onions, yellow (2)
  10. Onions, red (2)
  11. Peas, 5 pods
  12. Peppers (sweet), red or green (3) – 1/2” stem still attached
  13. Peppers, hot (3) – 1/2” stem still attached
  14. Potatoes, white (3), brushed clean, not washed
  15. Potatoes, red (3), brushed clean, not washed
  16. Radishes (4), leaves left on
  17. Tomatoes, red (3) same variety
  18. Tomatoes, green (3) same variety
  19. Tomatoes, cherry (4) same variety
  20. Zucchini (2) same variety, 5” – 12”
  21. Sunflower head (2) – in full bloom (put in jar with water)
  22. Herbs, 3 varieties, labelled, fresh in water
  23. Garlic bulbs (2), roots trimmed to ¼”, stem to 1”

Novelty – Open to all ages – Prize Money is $4. for 1st place only.

  1. Oddest looking vegetable (any kind, naturally grown)
  2. Most uncommon TYPE of fruit or vegetable (named)
  3. Longest carrot

ADULT CLASS – AGE 17 and over

Prize Money        1st – $7.        2nd – $6.        3rd – $5.        4th – $4.

  1. Scarecrow – no more than 5 feet high – must be free standing and use things that blow in the wind
  2. Vegetable/produce display, using a minimum of 5 vegetables (max size = 17” x 17’)
